Full-Arch Care

All-On-4® Dental Implants in Oro Valley and Tucson, AZ

All-On-4 treatment uses four to six strategically placed implants to support a custom full arch. Rutledge Dental combines 3D imaging, computer-guided planning, and a coordinated restoration process to make complex care clear and manageable.

Designed For

A full upper or lower arch of missing or failing teeth

Support

Four to six strategically planned implants in many cases

Provisional Smile

A fixed temporary arch may be placed the day of surgery when appropriate

Long-Term Care

Daily hygiene, professional maintenance, and periodic evaluation

About the Treatment

A Fixed Full-Arch Option for Missing or Failing Teeth

All-On-4 dental implants are designed for patients who need to replace most or all teeth in an upper or lower arch. Rather than placing an implant for every missing tooth, the treatment uses a smaller number of strategically positioned titanium implants to support a custom full-arch restoration.

The implants act as a stable foundation beneath the restoration. This can reduce movement associated with removable dentures and support more confident speaking and chewing. The exact number and position of implants depend on bone anatomy, bite forces, existing teeth, medical history, and the restorative design.

At Rutledge Dental, the process begins with a comprehensive examination and digital records. The goal is not simply to place implants. It is to plan the implant position, tooth position, bite, facial support, provisional restoration, final restoration, and long-term maintenance as one connected case.

Because each arch is planned as one case, the All-On-4 process moves from records to a provisional restoration to the final teeth in a set order.

Candidacy

Could All-On-4 Be Appropriate for You?

A consultation is appropriate when failing teeth, extensive tooth loss, or an unstable removable denture is affecting comfort, function, or confidence. Eligibility is determined clinically, not from a photograph or online checklist.
  • You are missing most or all teeth in one arch.
  • Several remaining teeth have a poor long-term prognosis.
  • A removable denture feels loose, uncomfortable, or limiting.
  • You want to understand fixed and removable full-arch options.
  • You are willing to follow healing, hygiene, and maintenance instructions.
  • Your health history and bone anatomy support implant treatment, or can be managed through a coordinated plan.

Benefits

Why Patients Consider All-On-4® Implants

The value of full-arch implant care extends beyond appearance. The most meaningful benefits involve stability, function, facial support, and a treatment plan built for continued care.
Fixed Stability

The restoration is secured to implants rather than resting only on the gums, which can improve stability while speaking and chewing.

Coordinated Smile Design

Tooth shape, shade, bite, and facial proportions are considered together so the restoration belongs in your smile.

Efficient Implant Strategy

Angled and strategically positioned implants may help use available bone and can reduce the need for extensive grafting in some cases.

A Provisional Path

When stability and clinical conditions allow, a fixed provisional arch may be delivered on the day implants are placed.

Clear Maintenance Plan

The team explains cleaning techniques, professional maintenance, protective habits, and how the restoration will be monitored.

One Connected Team

Surgical planning, restorative design, digital records, provisional care, and follow-up are coordinated around the same clinical goal.

What to Expect

How All-On-4® Implants Treatment Is Planned

Full-arch treatment is completed in carefully sequenced phases. Your timeline may include extractions, grafting, healing, provisional teeth, and refinement of the final restoration.

Step 1

Comprehensive Consultation
We review your concerns, health history, current teeth, gums, bite, existing denture experience, and priorities for function and appearance.

Step 2

3D Records and Restorative Planning
Digital imaging and detailed records help evaluate bone, implant positions, tooth arrangement, facial support, and the relationship between the planned teeth and your bite.

Step 3

Implant Placement
Implants are placed according to the digital and restorative plan. Extractions or additional procedures may be completed when indicated. Sedation options are discussed individually.

Step 4

Provisional Restoration
If the implants achieve appropriate stability, a fixed provisional arch may be connected while healing begins. A modified soft-food diet protects the developing implant foundation.

Step 5

Healing and Final Restoration
After healing and integration, records are refined for the final restoration. Fit, bite, speech, cleaning access, and appearance are evaluated before completion.

Planning and Technology

Plan the Teeth and the Implants Together

All-On-4 treatment depends on the relationship between bone, implants, restorative space, tooth position, and bite. Three-dimensional imaging and digital planning help the team study those relationships before surgery.

Computer-guided planning can support precise implant positioning. Digital records also help coordinate the provisional and final restorations so clinical and esthetic decisions are made from the same plan.

Recovery and Maintenance

Healing and Caring for a Full-Arch Restoration

The first phase of recovery focuses on protecting the implant sites and provisional restoration. Instructions may include a soft-food diet, prescribed oral hygiene steps, medication guidance, and scheduled follow-up visits.

Long-term care is active care. The restoration and the tissues around each implant require daily cleaning and professional maintenance. The team will demonstrate the tools and techniques that fit your restoration.

  • Follow the recommended food progression during healing
  • Clean beneath and around the restoration as directed
  • Attend scheduled implant maintenance visits
  • Avoid smoking and habits that increase implant risk
  • Report looseness, discomfort, bite changes, or tissue changes promptly

Informed Decisions

Important Factors before You Decide

A filling, onlay, veneer, implant, root canal, or extraction may be more All-On-4 is a surgical and restorative treatment, so candidacy depends on more than the number of missing teeth. Bone volume, gum health, medical conditions, medications, smoking, bite forces, hygiene, and expectations all affect planning.

A fixed full-arch restoration is not maintenance-free. Components can wear, teeth may require repair, and the supporting tissues need ongoing evaluation. Your consultation should include alternatives, anticipated phases, financial planning, and the responsibilities of long-term care.

  • Bone grafting may still be recommended in selected areas
  • Not every patient qualifies for same-day fixed provisional teeth
  • Initial speech and chewing adaptation is common
  • Nightguard or protective strategies may be recommended
  • Individual healing and treatment timelines vary

Patient Questions

All-On-4® Implants FAQs

These answers provide a starting point. Your examination, health history, and treatment goals determine the recommendation for you.
How Does All-On-4 Differ from Traditional Dental Implants?

All-On-4 describes a full-arch approach in which four to six strategically planned implants often support one complete restoration. A conventional implant plan may use individual implants for single teeth or additional implants for bridges and larger restorations. The best design depends on anatomy, the number of missing teeth, restorative space, bite, and long-term maintenance needs.

How Long Does All-On-4 Treatment Take?

The surgical appointment and provisional restoration may be completed in one coordinated day when conditions allow, but the full treatment includes planning, healing, follow-up, and completion of the final restoration. Your specific timeline depends on extractions, grafting, implant stability, healing, and restorative needs.

Will I Leave the Office with Teeth?

Many qualified patients can receive a fixed provisional arch on the day implants are placed. This is determined by implant stability, bone quality, bite, and other clinical findings. If immediate loading is not advisable, the team will explain an appropriate temporary option.

Will I Need Bone Grafting?

The All-On-4 concept is often used to make efficient use of available bone, but it does not eliminate grafting in every case. Three-dimensional imaging helps identify whether grafting, sinus treatment, or another implant design should be discussed.

What Can I Eat after Full-Arch Implant Surgery?

Patients typically follow a modified soft-food diet during early healing to limit stress on the implants and provisional restoration. The team provides specific food guidance and explains when textures can be advanced based on healing.

How Do I Clean All-On-4 Dental Implants?

Daily care includes cleaning the restoration, gumline, and space beneath the arch with tools selected for your design. Professional implant maintenance visits are also necessary to evaluate the tissues, bite, components, and hygiene access.

How Long Can an All-On-4 Restoration Last?

Implants and restorations are designed for long-term service, but longevity varies. Health, smoking, hygiene, bite forces, maintenance, material wear, and follow-up all matter. The restoration may require repair or replacement even when the implants remain healthy.

App. Was fast efficient and very friendly. My tech Shannon was very thorough complete and was getting down to the bottom of finding out why my tooth was very achy and hurting. Dr Rutledge was as always pleasant & easy to talk to and gave you the details of my exam as simple as one could get. Although I will have to have my wisdom tooth pulled it was a very satisfactory experience and the referral was quick and easily handled by the front desk.
